Welcome to the official website for Wooden Nickels – The Movie*. September 2008 was a momentous month for me because I (JamTown) FINALLY finished a feature-length screenplay that was two years in the making. (Woooooo!!!! Doing imaginary backflips around the room.) After four years at University of Southern California’s film school and another (almost) four years in the “real world,” I am so excited that the ball is a-rolling on this project. So in celebration of this noteworthy feat, I thought what better way to celebrate than with friends–old and new.
This blog is for people to talk about many of the themes that Wooden Nickels deals with. Frankly, everyone has a story about college life. Good or Bad, Funny or Serious, we can all relate. Even if you are about to enter college…you have a story too. So let’s talk about it.

Ready for your first question?! Okay!
In Wooden Nickels, the lead character (called CG for now) has an unforgettable roommate experience.
- For my College Survivors: What is your roommate from heaven or roommate from hell experience?
- For my College Dreamers (those bright-eyed students who are on their way to college) What excites or scares you about having a roommate?
JamTown’s Response:
I don’t know about roommates from heaven, but I did live with people who were alot of fun. I’m a person who loves the performing arts. I grew up performing, went to a performing arts high school, and still perform professionally to this day. That being said, it was nice to have some roommates who were as animated and spontaneous as I was. Bursting out into a song or dance was not abnormal and was actually welcomed by most of my roommates. Sometimes being in my apartment from year to year was like watching a television sitcom play out right in front of your eyes. A song that one of my senior year roommates used to sing all the time was “Peaches” by The Presidents of the United States of America. I didn’t believe the song was real when she would sing it because it was just about eating peaches. Pretty silly, right? Well, I was dead wrong because not only is the song real, it’s pretty amazing. This song became an anthem for our apartment and all our roommates…I was in heaven. Check it out here:
Now roommates from hell…ummm… I had one roommate who was a great person, but she really tried my nerves one day in particular. A little bit of back story. I had a papasan chair that I loved and affectionately named “Papa.” I would study in this chair, watch TV in this chair, talk on the phone in this chair, and even fall asleep in this chair. It was usually the first chair guests would try and sit in and soon after fall out of because they didn’t know how to sit in it correctly. I would quickly tell them not to mess up my chair. Back to my roommate: My other roommates and I were already preparing for bed when this roommate in particular came home with a guy. She met him at a party or something. So I wake up the next morning and go into the kitchen to grab some food and I see this guy not only still in my apartment, but he is sleeping in my papasan chair in his boxer shorts. My roommate is asleep on the couch. Now I already had a thing about random people being in my apartment…meaning people my roommates didn’t really know but had just met off the street or at parties or something. The main thing was a safety issue. We didn’t have locks on our bedroom doors. But random people sleeping over? In my precious chair?!! I promptly went over to the guy and told him to put his pants on and to get out of my house. He groggily said, “Huh? What?” I said, “You need to get out. Right now.” And so he did.
So what is your story?
